Phylum Chordata is one of the phyla under Kingdom Animalia. It's members are characterised by the following defining features:

1. A Notochord
2. A single, dorsal and hollow nerve cord
3. Pharyngeal gill slits present laterally
4. Post anal tail

Phylum chordata is further sub-divided into 3 sub-phyla:

1. Urochordata or Tunicata
2. Cephalochordata
3. Vertebrata
