Friction is a type of force that opposes the motion of an object.It acts between the two surfaces in contact and the direction of frictional force is opposite of direction of motion, thus friction slows down the motion of object.

Types of friction-

1. Static friction - It is the type of friction which comes in to play before the actual movement of object start.When an external force is applied on an object, the static friction (in opposite direction of external force) balances that external force and the object remains static as before.

2. Kinetic friction - When an object start moving then, the friction which opposes the motion is called kinetic friction.

3. Rolling friction - When an object rolls over another surface,then the friction that works there, is called rolling friction.

4. Sliding friction - When an object slides over another surface, the friction is called sliding friction.

5. Fluid friction -When a body moves in a fluid(liquid or gas ) then there exists a resistive force which opposes the motion of the body, known as fluid frictional force.
