Three ways in which friction can be harmful are- 

1. If there was no friction, cars would get much better gas mileage and almost without any loss of petrol or diesel.
2. To overcome the force of friction a large amont of force has to be applied so, a lot of force is wasted on overcoming it.
3. Friction heats up the devices and due to heating machines can be damaged.
