The nature of magnetic force (attractive or repulsive) depends on the object on which it acts.For diamagnetic substances, the magnetic force is repulsive in nature while for paramagnetic and ferromagnetic substances the magnetic force is attractive.
1. Diamagnetic substances - substances which are repelled by magnets.
example- Water, gold,copper
2. Paramagnetic substances- substances which are attracted by magnets.
example-Aluminium, chromium
3.Ferromagnetic substances- substances which are strongly attracted by magnets.
example- Iron ,nickel, cobalt
