Let us take an example to construct a parallelogram using the compass.

Example: Construct a parallelogram ABCD where

AB = 6 cm, BC = 4.5 cm and diagonal AC = 6.8 cm

Construction:

1. Draw line AB = 6 cm.

2. Taken A as center and radius 6.8, draw an arc.

3. Again teken B as center and radius 4.5 cm, draw another arc which cuts the previous arc at point C. 

4. Now join AC and BC. 

5. Taken A as center and radius 4.5 cm, draw an arc.

6. Again teken C as centre and radius 6 cm, draw another arc which cuts the previous arc at point D. 

7. Now join AD and CD. 

These steps are shown the following figure.

Now ABCD is the required parallelogram.
