Question:
The total surface area of a hollow cylinder which is open from both the sides is 4620 cm square ,area of a base ring is 115.5 cm square and height is 7cm.find the thickness of the cylinder.
Answer:

Let r and R be the radius of the inner and outer cylinder respectively.

Given, height of the hollow cylinder, h = 7 cm

and area of the base ring = 115.5 cm2

=> π(R2 - r2 ) = 115.5

Total surface area of hollow cylinder = 4620 cm2

=> 2π(R - r)h + 2π(R2 - r2 ) = 4620

=> 2 * 22/7 * (R - r) * 7 + 2 * 115 .5 = 4620

=> 44(R - r) = 4620 - 23

=> 44(R - r) = 4389

=> R - r = 4389/44

=> R - r = 99.75

Thus, the thickness of the cylinder is 99.75 cm
