Let us take an example to show how to solve a word problem.

Example: Sum of two numbers is 60. One of the numbers is 10 more than the other. What are the numbers?

Solution: Let the first number is x.

Given that second number is more than 10 of first number.  

So the second number is x + 10 

Now again given that 

sum of two numbers  = 60

=> x + x + 10 = 60

=> 2x + 10 = 60

=> 2x = 60 - 10

=> 2x = 50

=> x = 50/2

=> x = 25

So the first number is 10.

The second number = x + 10 

                               = 25 + 10 

                               = 35

So numbers are 25, 35. 

In this way, we can solve word problems.
