All parts of our body can work only when there is energy. The formation of energy in the form of ATP molecules happens during the Krebs Cycle. If you look at the Krebs cycle, it is mainly the process of oxidising glucose that comes from food materials to generate energy. Thus, oxygen is required for the purpose of the oxidation process.
