A ratio is a relationship between two quantities of the same kind and with same unit and is obtained on dividing first quantity by the second. 

The symbol of ratio is ":" and it is put in between the two quantities to be compared.

Example: The ratio between 15 kg and 20 kg = 15 kg: 20 kg = 15 / 20 = 3/4 = 3 : 4
