Question:
Two point white dots are 1 mm apart on a black paper . They are viewed by eye of pupil diameter 3 mm . Apporoximately , what is the maximum distance at which these dots can be resolved by the eye
Answer:

Resolution limit = 1.22 x λ/D

Where,

D = Diameter of pupil in the eye = 3 nm

 λ = wavelength (consider 550 mm)

Hence,

Resolution limit= distance between the dots/resolving diameter= 1 mm/d

1.22 x 550nm/3nm = 1 mm/d

D = 1mm x 3mm/1.22 x 550nm = 0.00447 = 4.47 m
