Question:
an object is placed 20cm to the left of a convex lens of focal length 10cm if a concave mirror og focal length 5cm is palced 30cm to the right of the lens what is the position of the final image.
Answer:

Given,

Distance between lens and mirror= 30 cm

the object is placed at the distance of 20 cm, left to the lens.

So, u= -20 cm

Focal length of lens,f = 10 cm.

from the lens formula-

1/v -1/u =1/f

1/v= 1/10 -1/20

v= 20 cm

It means, image I1 will form at distance 20 cm right from the lens the lens.

This image acts as source(object) for the mirror.

So, the object distance for mirror =(30-20) = 10 cm

object distance for mirror = -10 cm (object is in left of mirror)

Focal length of mirror = 5 cm

From mirror equation-

1/v +1/u = 1/f

1/v= 1/5 +1/10

v = 10/3 cm

So, the final image I2 will form from mirror at the distance of 10/3 cm, right from the mirror.
