At the centre of a bar magnet, the opposite magnetic fields at south pole and north pole of a magnet meets and cancels each other. So there is necessarily no magnetism in the middle of the bar magnet. Therefore, iron fillings do not get attracted to the centre of a magnet, instead it attracts only to north and south poles.
