- The charges are associated with the nearby atoms
- When an external electric field is applied, there is displacement of bound charges. This creates small electric dipoles within the dielectric. This phenomenon is called polarization
- The electric field inside and outside the dielectric gets modified due to the presence of dipoles.
- Thus dielectric can store energy.
