Denaturation of proteins leads to loss of thir tertiary structure. The protein folding, which is important to carry out the important and specific functions of the proteins, is lost, and hence the functional properties of the protein is lost as well. This happens due to hydrolysis of the hydrogen bonds in the protein which is important to keep it in the folded form.
