Cleistogamous flowers are those flowers which do not open throughout their life. They remain in bud stage. Hence, they show only self-pollination. 

On the other hand, all the other flowers which open after the bud stage are called chasmogamous flowers.

For example, Commelina, Oxalis and Viola produce both cleistogamous and chasmogamous flowers.
