Mitosis and meiosis are types of cell divisions.

Mitosis occurs in body/somatic cells at the end of which two daughter cells are formed each of which contains equal number of chromosomes as that of the parent cell. Thus, it is called equational division.

Meiosis occurs in reproductive cells at the end of which four daughter cells are formed each of which contain half the number of chromosomes as that of the parent cell. Thus, its is called reductional division.
