Inferences drawn by the Mendelian experiments on Pisum sativum are studied as three laws (more specifically termed as "Mendel's laws of inheritance"). They are:

1. Law of Dominance - states that "out of the two pairs of contrasting alleles only one is able to express itself while the other remains hidden or masked during the inheritance." The allele that expresses itself is called the dominant allele while the allele that remains masked is called the recessive allele.

2. Law of Segregation - states that " the pairs of alleles separate or segregate during gamete formation and their paired condition is restored by random fusion of gametes during fertilisation."

3. Law of Independent assortment - states that " the inheritance of one factor/gene is not affected by the inheritance of the other." In other words, if we consider the inheritance of two or more genes at a time, their distribution in gametes and in the progeny of subsequent generations would be independent of each other.
