Linkage is the tendency of two or more genes to be inherited in more than two generations due to their close location on a chromosomes. The closer the genes are situated, the lesser are their chances to be exchanged and separated during crossing over, with greater chances of being inherited together.

Recombination refers to the exchange of genetic material seen during crossing over of meiotic division.

Both these terms are inversely related. 

Higher frequency of recombination indicate lesser linkage in the genes.
