Hi there!
The following are the points on which linkage and crossing over differ.
Crossing over:
1. Ensures separation of genes present on the chromosome during gamete formation.
2. Brings about alterations in the parental traits.
3. Leads to variations during sexual reproduction.
4. The chances of separation of genes during crossing over is directly proptional to the distance between them. More the distance between the genes, more are their chances of being separated during crossing over and vice versa.
Linkage:
1. Ensures that two genes present on the chromosome stay and inherit together.
2. Brings about continuation of parental traits after generations.
3. Reduces chances of variations during sexual reproduction.
4. The chances of linkage is inversely proportional to the distance between them. The lesser the distance between two genes, more tightly are they linked and vice versa.
Thanks
