Internal fertilization refers to the process in which the union of male and female gametes (sperm and egg) occurs inside the body of the female. This is in contrast to external fertilization, where fertilization occurs outside the body, typically in an aquatic environment.

E.g. Humans, dogs, cats, elephants.
