The procedure of GIFT involves transfer of female gamete from the suitable female donor to the fallopian tube of the recipient. The functional ovum in the fallopian tube can be fertilised naturally after coitus. Since the fertilisation takes place within the female's body, it is in vivo fertilisation. Following fertilisation, the zygote undergoes cleavage divisions while descending down from the ampulla region to the isthmus of the fallopian tube. After which, it reaches uterus in blastocyst stage and gets implanted leading to pregnancy.

Remember, the technique of GIFT is suitable for females who cannot produce egg but can provide a suitable environment for both fertilisation and further development of the embryo.
