A brief summary of the role of different hormones in the menstrual cycle is listed below:

1. FSH (Follicle stimulating hormone) - causes maturation of primary follicles into Graafian follicle. It also stimulates the ovary tissue to secrete estrogen.

2. Estrogen - Repairs the uterine wall after menstruation. Also stimulates anterior pituitary to produce LH.

3. LH (Leutinising hormone) - Causes ovulation and conversion of Graafian follicle into corpus luteum.

4. Progesterone - inhibits production of FSH, thereby stopping further development of follicles. It also prepares the uterine wall before implantation and maintains pregnancy.
