Chicken pox is caused by virus and happens only once because a person is immuned to that virus for life time. The antibodies for that particular virus have formed and it will use a mechanism against it if that virus attacts again.
Common cold is caused by a number of different genera of virus. So the different antibodies are producing and different number of genera of virus are attacking the persons immune system.
Cold causing virus has the property of undergoing antigentic drift and antigenetic shift so require differnt antibody everytime.
