Question:
If a ball strikes elastically normal to a wall wid velocity v if the time of impact is dt then magnitude of impulsive force is?
Answer:

Impulsive force = Impulse /Time

Impulse = Final momentum - Initial momentum

The ball of mass m strikes the wall with velocity v.

So, initial momentum is= mv .....(1)

ball rebounds with same velocity but in opposite direction after striking the wall, so velocity = -v

and final momentum= -mv ......(2)

from eq. (1) and (2)

 Impulse = -mv -(mv) = -2mv

and impulsive force = -2mv/ dt

Magnitude of impulsive force = 2mv/dt
