In physics, a dimension represents a fundamental quantity or characteristic of a physical system. The dimensions are independent, and they form the basis for expressing other physical quantities.
There are commonly accepted fundamental dimensions such as length (L), mass (M), time (T), electric current (I), temperature (Θ), amount of substance (N), and luminous intensity (J).
Every physical quantity can be expressed as a product of powers of these fundamental dimensions. For example, velocity has dimensions of [L][T]⁻¹ (length divided by time), and force has dimensions of [M][L][T]⁻² (mass times acceleration).
