Every equation is the relation among some physical quantities.

So, you have to select the equation according to given and unknown quantity in question.

E.g. The first equation of motion gives us the relation among initial velocity u, final velocity v, acceleration a and time t.

V=u+at

So, if in question, among these four physical quantities, any three given so you can use this equation to find the fourth unknown quantity.
