The mass of an object doesnt depend on its environment. So it is a scalar quantity
Weight does as it involves the direction at which the mass points. An object placed on the moon will have a weight directed towards the center of the moon, but if it is on earth it will have a weight directed towards the center of the earth. Thus weight is a vector quantity.
