Question:
The ceiling of a long hall is 25 m hight. What is the maximum horizontal distance that a ball throw with a speed of 49m/s can go without hitting the ceiling of the wall?
Answer:

The maximum possible height of a projectile-

H = u2 sin2θ/g

Or the angle of projection will be given as-

sinθ = (Hg/u2)1/2

Given, H= 25 m

u= 49 m/sec

Take g= 10 m/sec2

sinθ =[25×10 / (49)2]1/2

= [250/2401]1/2

sinθ = 0.322

θ = sin-1 (0.322)

θ = 18.78o

So, the maximum horizontal range -

R =u2 sin2θ/g

= (49)2 sin(37.56) /10

R= 2401× 0.609 /10

= 146.22 m
