Question:
what is tension? And how is the direction of tension determined? Please help me.. thank you!
Answer:

Tension is the pulling force exerted by each end of a string in a pulley, cable, chain, or other objects. Tension is the opposite of compression.

The direction of tension is almost always opposite to the direction of pulling force or movement in a string or a cable. It is the force acting in opposite direction to the movement.
