Consider one surface which is rough. Yhen when the other surfaces (say) is smooth or rough, comes into contact with the rough surface, then interlocking happens. This interlocking is a cause of friction. Hence, practically static friction being zero is not possible. However, by the use of ball bearing and lubricants, we can reduce the friction.
