The plane of the graph paper is divided into four regions by the coordinate axes and the four regions are called quadrants as shown in the figure:

(+, +) in the first quadrant

(-, +) in the second quadrant

(-, -) in the third quadrant

(+, -) in the fourth quadrant

Ex:  (2, 5) in the first quadrant

      (-2, 5) in the second quadrant

      (-2, -5) in the third quadrant

       (2, -5) in the fourth quadrant
