Entropy of a system can be explained as a measure of molecular disorder in a system. The second law of thermodynamics states that for an isolated system, the entropy never decreases. Such systems spontaneously evolve towards thermodynamic equilibrium, the state with maximum entropy. That is maximum stability of a system is achieved when the entropy of the system is highest.
