Question:
In some of the reactions thallium resembles aluminium, whereas in others it resembles with group I metals. Support this statement by giving some evidences.
Answer:

Resemblance of Thallium with Aluminum: - Aluminium always shows a oxidation state of +3, while Thallium shows +3 oxidation state in sme of its compounds like Tl2O3, TlCl3.Both Aluminium and Thallium forms octahedral complexes like [AlF3]3- and [TlF6]3-

Resemblance of Thallium with group1: - Thallium also resembles the group1 elements. Just like any group1 element it shows an oxidation state of +1. Compounds like Tl2O, TlCl etc show +1 oxidation state and this is due to inert pair effect.
