A carboxylic acid can be represented by resonance structure and is stabilized by the formation of carboxylate ion as it can undergo resonance (as shown below). Thus, carboxylix acids tend to lose the proton to form carboxylate anion readily.

A carboxylate anion is more stabilized by resonance. This is because a carboxylate ion has two equivalent structures, which are equally favored and the pKa of carboxylic acid for example acetic acid is 4.5.
