Question:In the presence of acetone i.e. aprotic solvent, the nucleophilicity of Br- is greater than that of I- . In that case, how can the reaction between RBr and I- is expected to take place and form RI?
In the video class, it has been told that the reaction takes place but very slowly.
Answer:This is so because R group is also nucleophilic. So it readily reacts with another group which is comparatively less nucleophilic than it. In the above case, it should be I-. So RI is formed more easily than RBr.
