Question:
Why only some elements are in diatomic states like O2,H2,N2
Answer:

Some elements cannot exist in a stable form in the monoatomic state, as their outermost shell does not have a complete octet confoguration. So these combine with another atom and becomes diatomic. In this way they acheive complete octet configuration.
