In marshy areas there is transition between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem. They often dominated by grasses, rushes, or reeds. Many of these plants have aerenchyma , channels within the stem that allow air to move from leaves into rooting zone.

Basically, there is more vegetation and organisms as compared to other areas tberefore there is always lack of oxygen with respect to organisms.
