Macronutrients: They are present in large amounts in plant tissues. They are in excess of 10 mmole per kg of dry matter. Examples: Carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, sulphur, phosphorous, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

Micronutrients: These elements are present in small amounts. It is found to be less than 10 mmole per kg of dry matter. Examples: Iron, copper, zinc, chlorine, manganese, copper, boron, and nickel.

Beneficial Elements: sodium, cobalt, silicon and selenium are required for plant, except 17 essential elements

Toxic Elements: If any element concentration reaches a certain threshold level in plants that become toxic to plant.
