Enzymes, being a protein has many properties same as protein like molecular size, charge, solubility and ligand specificity.

In addition to that an enzyme helps in

1) Precede the bio-chemical reaction and form the product. Example:

Lactate  +  NAD⁺  + lactate dehydrogenase ↔ Pyruvate + NADH + H⁺

2) Some enzymes are simple protein consist with polypeptide chains. Sometimes, It is conjugate with other non-essential component which is essential for enzyme activity, those enzymes are known as Holoenzyme.

Holoenzyme (active) = Apoenzyme (inactive) + Cofactor (inactive)
