Phellogen is defined as meristmatic cell layer responsible for development of periderm. Cells that goes inward afe called phelloderm and cells that goes outward are called phellem or cork.

Cork cambium is a tissue found in many vascular plants as part of epidermis. The cork cambium is a lateral meristem and is responsible for secondary growth that replaces the epidermis in roots and stems.
