Nelson Mandela was born on 18 July 1918 in South Africa
His real name was Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
In 1961, Mandela was tried for treason, had to live in prison on Robben Island for almost 27 years, where he also worked as a coal miner.
But the court declared him innocent and he was released on 11 February 1990.
After this, he laid the foundation of a democratic and multiracial Africa by the policy of peace. In 1994, when apartheid-free elections were held in South Africa, in which he got the opportunity to form a government with a majority.
Nelson Mandela became the first black president of his country on 10 May 1994.
He was called the Gandhi of South Africa.
