There are two different types of materials when it comes to transmittance of light. One which does not allow light to pass through are called opaque surfaces. A relecting surface is a different category which does not abosrb, but reflects the light falling on it.
Another type of surface which completely allows light to pass through are called transparent surfaces. Example, glass surfaces.
