Question:

In order to produce an image with magnification m, a concave mirror of focal length f is used. If the object is kept at a distance d from the mirror, then ( m 1)f equals

Answer:

From mirror equation-

Magnification, m= Image height / object height  = -(image distance)/object distance .......(1)

and as we know, 1/f = 1/object distance + 1/image distance  ........(2)

Given,object distance is d and focal length is f.

From eq. (2)

1/image distance = (d-f) /f.d

So, image distance = f.d /d-f

On putting this value of image distance in eq. (1),we get

m = -(f.d) /d(d-f)

Therefore, (m+1)f  = ([-f.d/d(d-f)]+1).f
