In small intestine, bile juice secreted from the liver causes emulsification of fats (breakdown of large fat molecules into tiny globules). These emulsified fats are acted upon by the enzyme pancreatic lipase (secreted by the pancreas in the pancreatic juice).

The pancreatic lipases break fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
