Genes and chromosomes are not very different things. Chromosomes are nothing but just an orderly arrangement of the genes, which are in thousands in the chromosomes, to give it the particular chromatid shape that it has. Therefore, genes in a chromosome function like how each and every individual gene would have functioned when not arranged in a chromosome. Thus, genes and chromosomes have similar functionalities.
