Birds sitting on the live wires and do not get the electrocuted because of the following reasons.

1. The circuit to flow the electrons and hence electricity is not complete when birds sit on the wire. So no electricity flows.

2. Living organisms are bad conductors of electricity, so are birds.

3. There is no potential difference across the bird on the same wire where it sits. So current cannot flow.
