Question:
To costruct a wall 24m long, 0.4m thick and 6m high, bricks of dimensions 25cm×16cm×10cm each are used. if the mortar occupies one tenth of the volume of the wall find the number of bricks used
Answer:

Given, the dimension of the wall = 24* 0.4*6 m

So, volume of the wall = 24* 0.4*6 = 57.6 m3

Again, the dimension of the brick = 25 cm * 16 cm*10 cm

                                                    = (25/100) m * (16/100) m*(10/100) m

Now, volume of the one brick = (25/100) * (16/100) *(10/100) m

                                               = 4000/1000000

                                               = 4/1000

                                               = 0.004 m3

Now, volume of the morter = volume of the wall/10

                                           = 57.6/10

                                           = 5.76

Now, volume of the all bricks = 57.6 - 5.76 = 51.84

Number of bricks = volume of the all bricks/volume of the one brick

                           = 51.84/0.004

                           = (5184/100)*(1000/4)

                           = (5184*1000)/(100*4)

                           =  (5184*10)/4

                           =  51840/4

                           = 12960

So, the number of bricks used = 12960
