Question:
Find the equation of the perpendicular dropped from the point P(5, 4) to the line joining A(2, -3) and B(4, -3)
Answer:

Equation of the line joining A(2, -3) and B(4, -3) is

(y + 3) = {(-3 + 3)/(4 - 2)}*(x - 2)

=> y + 3 = 0

=> y = -3

So, the slope m = 0

If two lines are perpendiculat to each other, then

    m1 *m2 = -1

=> m2 = -1/0

=> m2 = ∞

=> m2 = 1/0

Now slope of the equation of the perpendicular dropped from the point P(5, 4)  m2 = 1/0

So, the eqaution is

(y - 4) = m2 *(x - 5)

(y - 4) = (x - 5)/0

=> x - 5 = 0

This is the required equation.
