Question:
define virus and bacteria.state their importance and differences between them
Answer:

Virus- they are obligate intracellular parasites which require a living host for its survival.

They are infectious agents . They are considered to be a border line between living and non living as it has its own genetic material, ability to replicate inside an host. The gentic material is surrounded by a protein layer called capsid. Gentic material can be DNA or RNA.

No cellular machinery.Antibiotics cannot kill viruses.

Imprtance- they are harmful but gentically engineered virus are used in rDNA technology and gene therapy as vectors. Eg. Cosmid.

Bacteria- Single cell prokaryotic organism livung in variety of environment.

They can live inside and outside of host. They are living and cannot be crystallised. Cellular machinery is present. Gentic material is DNA.

Bacterial infection can be treated with antibiotics.

Importance- They are harmless or benefecial even essential to life.
