Question:
If in a nearly saturated solution, the dissolution process is endothermic(ΔHsolution>0),the solubility should increase with rise in temperature and if it is exothermic (ΔHsolution>0) the solubility should decrease. What does this mean?
Answer:

This is related to the effect of temperature on the solubility of a solid in liquid. Effect of temperature on solubility of a solid in a liquid at dynamic equilibrium must follow Le chateliers Principle, according to which, In a nearly saturated solution.

(a) If dissolution process is endothermic (ΔsolH>O) , the solubility should increase with rise in temperature.

(b) If dissolution process is exothermic (ΔsolH<O) the solubility should decrease with rise in temperature.
